Voluntary works
Volunteers have been involved in almost all areas
of activity of the preparation of the World Social Forum since its inception in
Porto Alegre, Brazil in 2001. Traditionally, the WSF has attracted people of
all ages, genders, races, religions, linguistic and cultural groups with a wide
range of backgrounds and skills, a shared commitment to the vision of the WSF
process and the desire to help committees respective organization later
editions of the WSF to achieve their goals.
Our volunteer program provides substantial benefits
to the SecretariatFSM 2011, commissions and other organs of the Organizing
Committee of the WSF 2011 in leveraging much needed technology, organization,
mobilization and other skills to successfully implement implement the
work plans and set goals for the successful organization of the 8th annual
World Social Forum.
The Organizing Committee of the WSF 2011 has taken the home of several
universities, institutes of higher education and national schools in Dakar and
in all regions of Senegal to recruit volunteers from 6000 to 7000. In
particular, the committee held an informational meeting with the pan-African
youth. Apart from Senegal, volunteers will be selected in neighboring countries
(Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Conakry, Mali, Mauritania). Volunteers are also
expected from Europe, America, Asia, etc..
Already, many young people filed their candidacies. After the selection
process, selected volunteers will be trained in methods of organizing the World
Social Forum. The Organizing Committee has also received commitments from local
structures to make available to volunteers who specialize in first aid. It will be given priority to those who are interested in volunteering and speak French and English fluently. For those who do not live in Dakar, the Committee cannot cover any travel or accommodation expenses.
